People are often confused about hypnosis. They think it is a form of entertainment and do not realize that, when used appropriately by a person who is skilled as both, a hypnotherapist and a psychotherapist, it can be a very effective tool in counselling and psychotherapy. Hypnotherapy is not stage hypnosis.
In order to use hypnosis safely and effectively requires specialized training. Using hypnosis requires the hypnotherapist to put the client into a hypnotic trance. Hypnosis is just one of many tools that can be used. It is gentle, relaxing and clients love it. There is no right or wrong way of going into the trance. I use hypnosis for stress relief, pain management including chronic pain or birthing, smoking cessation or weight loss. Hypnosis is also used for relieving fears or phobias such as fear of flying, snakes, or public speaking. The range of uses for hypnosis is unlimited and varied.
The client is always in control and can choose to come out of trance at any time. Being under hypnosis is much like the state you go into naturally when lost in thought or just about to fall asleep. There is no one who cannot go into the trance if they are willing. Even skeptics who agree to engage in the process enjoy the same positive results.
