WHY CHOSE ME AS YOUR THERAPIST

Q: There are many options for counselling in the area. Why should I come to see you?

A: That is a good question and one I wish more people would consider. First of all, I have very extensive education and specialized training. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology. I then specialized in Social Work and got a Bachelor of Social Work degree, with honours. I later acquired a Master of Social Work degree, also with honours, after which, I received a graduate Diploma of Social Administration, diplomas in EMDR,  Sex Therapy and Hypnosis and specialized training in many counselling modalities such as play therapy and CBT. I subsequently completed my Doctorate and have a PhD in Social Work. Each of my degrees is from an accredited Canadian university and is recognized worldwide. My PhD alone took 7 years of study, which is the norm, as a reputable PhD cannot be completed in an abbreviated time frame.

Next, I have work experience. I have worked in schools, hospitals, child-welfare agencies and my private practice where I have been offering quality counselling services to all ages since the early 90s.  I have volunteered my time and skills to many local and global agencies including my current work on the Board of Directors for the Global Alliance for Behavioral Health and Social Justice.

Then there is my professional licensing. I have been registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers since its inception. This means I have a professional code of ethics to uphold and I am accountable to the public. I take Registration seriously, so much so that with my colleague, I have authored the only Canadian book on the Ontario Code of Ethics. This book is available from the publisher as well as from common sources such as Amazon and Indigo. It is important to recognize, however, that the Social Work College allows for the registration of individuals with varying levels of education and scope of practice. A Social Service Worker is not university trained and not a Social Worker. Although members of the college, they are not trained as counselors but rather, as group support staff.

So why should you come to see ME? Because I have the skill, training, and expertise that you should expect in the person you are trusting to guide you to an improved life. My fees are comparable to others and my idyllic setting never fails to bring a smile to the faces of everyone. Hope to see you soon.
